Quick fixes for the most common issues. Most problems come down to permissions.

First things first — the permissions checklist. The vast majority of issues are fixed by confirming: Microphone is Always Allow, Location is Always + Precise, Camera is enabled, notifications are on, and battery optimization is disabled for MyGuardian.

🎙️ Voice activation

  1. Confirm microphone permission is Always Allow
  2. Check that voice activation is armed (shield indicator active in the app)
  3. Retrain your phrase in Settings → Voice Activation — train it in the kind of environment where you'd actually use it
  4. Disable battery optimization / low-power restrictions for MyGuardian, which can suspend background listening
  5. Restart your phone and test again

False positives are rare (<0.1% with a trained phrase). Cancel the session in the app — your contacts are notified it was a false alarm. If it keeps happening, retrain with a more distinctive phrase (avoid short or common word combinations).

📹 Recording & storage

  1. If you were offline, the recording is queued locally — it uploads automatically once you reconnect
  2. Check that your Google Drive has free storage space (Drive storage is billed under your own Google plan)
  3. Re-link Google in Settings → Connected Accounts if authorization expired
  4. If it still seems lost, email support@myguardianinc.com immediately — local queued copies may be recoverable

MyGuardian records at 1080p @ 30fps or 720p @ 60fps and adapts to conditions. In low light, AI-enhanced night mode prioritizes clarity over resolution. During live streaming on a weak connection, the stream quality drops (adaptive bitrate) but the saved recording retains full quality.

📡 Alerts & streaming

  1. Verify each contact's details in Settings → Trusted Contacts
  2. Have contacts check spam folders and allow MyGuardian notifications
  3. Run a test alert so everyone confirms delivery before it matters
  4. Remember: with no connection at all, alerts queue and send the moment you're back online

Adaptive bitrate automatically lowers stream quality to keep it flowing on poor connections. Buffering on the viewer's side usually reflects their connection. The full-quality recording is always preserved and uploaded regardless of stream quality.

📱 Device & app

Always-on listening is designed to be low-power, but impact varies by device. Keep the app updated, and if needed, arm voice activation situationally (e.g., before driving) instead of 24/7. Battery reports to support@myguardianinc.com directly shape our optimization work during beta.

Set location to Always with Precise Location on. Accuracy degrades indoors, in vehicles, and in dense urban canyons; because MyGuardian logs location continuously through an incident, the track typically corrects as signal improves.
